Leather Alliance Weekend 2017

The 2017 San Francisco Bay Area Leather Alliance Weekend was March 3rd through March 5th, 2017.

Major events were held at SOMArts, at 934 Brannan Street in San Francisco, with additional events at other locations around the city.

The fun started early, with two “United” parties, one on 2/17 at the Lonestar for the contestants number draw, and another on 2/19 at the Edge where the Class of 2016 and the Class of 2017 join forces to raise money for the SF Leather Alliance.

The actual Weekend festivities started on Friday with a “meet and greet” at Mr. S, and continued with the first-ever Titleholders Reunion party, honoring titleholders from around the world, past and present.

Saturday activities began with kink workshops and a vendor fair, leading up to the Mr. San Francisco Leather contest, which was followed in turn by a Victory Party.

On Sunday we gathered for the 51st annual SF Leather Community Awards ceremony and brunch, after which we headed to the Eagle for the traditional Sunday afternoon beer bust.

Geoff Millard
Mr. Daddy’s Barbershop Leather
becomes 35th Mr. San Francisco Leather

A sold out crowd filled the hall of SOMArts for the Mr. San Francisco Leather 2017 Contest.  Six highly qualified, well-spoken and very attractive men competed for the title before a distinguished panel of judges (video).

The winner was Geoff Millard, representing Daddy’s Barbershop, an institution within the Castro neighborhood and the leathermen’s community.  Geoff distinguished himself with an assertive and eloquent 90-second speech, praising the “bad asses” in the audience, and in the greater community, and urging them to defend their rights in the challenging times to come.  He displayed his sense of humor and other assets in responding to a pop question (video). He will go on to compete for the title of International Mr. Leather 2017 in Chicago this June.

Al Rahm, Mr. San Francisco Sober Leather, was selected as first runner up, and Mr. Powerhouse Leather, Travis Santell Rowland, became second runner up.  The 2017 Brotherhood Award (voted upon by the contestants themselves) was also awarded to Geoff.

All the candidates showed great poise and confidence, and spoke well in both their prepared remarks (delivered while wearing razor-sharp full leather outfits)  and their pop questions (improvised while wearing jockstraps).

The evening included several musical numbers, including Raquela singing “Love Changes Everything” (video), along with numerous honors and tributes, sharp repartee from MCs Lenny Broberg and Donna Sachet, and a heartfelt step-down speech by Mr. San Francisco Leather 2016 Cody Elkin.  A silent auction and the passing of a picnic basket raised major funds for the Leather Alliance’s Suicide Prevention Project and other worthy causes.

The crowd gratefully acknowledged the work of Ray Tilton and his production crew for creating a crisp, smoothly run and highly entertaining event.  The contest was followed by victory celebrations at the Powerhouse and other Castro and SoMa locations.

Meet the Man

Geoff Millard
Mr. Daddy’s Barbershop Leather 2017
and
Mr. San Francisco Leather 2017

A queer, disabled combat veteran, bootblack, and leatherman from Buffalo, NY, living in Oakland with his husband/sub. He flags hunter green on the left, light pink on right, and can switch his light blue, navy blue, black, or grey. A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor at Four Elements Fitness, a gym owned by queer women of color, Geoff is also an expert in choking if anyone wants to feel lightheaded later.

Mr. Daddy’s Barbershop Leather left home at the age of 11, and he bounced between the streets, fosters, or, at times, his parents until he joined the military at 17. He was at ground zero on 9-11 and deployed to Iraq in ‘04 where he became an early opponent of the war. Despite living most of his life in the closet, Geoff learned to love boots in the army, knowing he was a queer pervert from his earliest memories. From homeless youth to open, out, and proud leatherman, Geoff has done some amazing things: he got arrested outside of Bush’s ranch, smoked hookah over the pyramids of Giza, licked a Sir’s boots in Germany, and even briefed President Obama in the Oval Office; just ask, he loves storytelling.

Kink Workshops

Workshop:  Dog / Pup Play, with Roz and Shelby

Saturday March 4th, 11:30 am
SOMArts,  934 Brannan Street
$10 in advance
$15 at the door

The human pup scene is a popular kink, especially among younger people and the next generation of BDSM kinksters.  Pup/dog play is a way of exploring Dom/sub dynamics in a completely different way than Sir/boy or Master/slave – and often “unleashes” a playful and affectionate energy while emphasizing a power dynamic.  Pup/dog play also allows people to tap into their “primal” selves. This presentation goes into the psychology, techniques, equipment and a bit of the history and current status of Pup play.

Roz has been a human pup handler. She was introduced to pup play in 2015 when attending SF’s Folsom Street Fair. Since then, she’s had a couple of Human Pups, including Pup Shelby. During that time, she’s gotten heavily involved in the kink community through the SF K9 Unit and has use the time to created material to educate newbies, pup-curious types and vanillas!

Shelby has been a human pup and a handler since approximately 2007, and was introduced to pup play at one of the SF K9 Unit’s Christmas moshes. Since then, he has repeatedly volunteered at events, organized events, and eventually joined the board of the SF K9 Unit this year, with a focus on event organizing and educational outreach. Shelby has spent years explaining pup play at Dore, Folsom, or our monthly to new or curious individuals, and always learns more than he shares. He has a passion for discussion about the meaning and psychology of pup play from either side of the leash, techniques or gear, or anything else related. It’s all a lot of fun to him!

Workshop participants are invited to attend the Woof! Human Pup Mosh at the SF Eagle, starting at 2 pm.

Workshop:  Pressure Points To Cause Pain, with Tomo

Saturday March 4th, 2:00 pm
SOMArts,  934 Brannan Street
$10 in advance
$15 at the door

Meridians are energy pathways in the body commonly used in martial arts, acupressure and acupuncture. Along these pathways are many points that can cause intense pain without injury or marks. Pressure points can be used with little strength on all body types. We will discover and practice several effective pressure points to get your bottom’s attention, cause pain, takedown, or subdue.  The proper and most effective ways to activate these points will be shown, using parts of your own body to press, and other objects to intensify the sensation.  Safety and health concerns will be discussed to insure that this play is fun and safe.  Participation is not required, however this is a hands-on class so get ready to grab somebody willing and watch them make great faces!

Tomo is honored to be the slave of Ms Rhonda and serves with her Master as International Master and slave 2016 and Northwest Master and slave 2015.  She is a Producer of Northwest Leather Celebration and the Northwest Master slave Contest. Tomo identifies as a leatherdyke and has roots in the New York and South Texas Leather Communities.  Tomo has been teaching Japanese Martial Arts for over 30 years and as a slave, has been deeply affected by this culture.  She has presented classes and served as a judge at local and national events for two decades.  She was a Producer of International Ms Leather Weekend and a founder of the Dyke Uniform Corps.  Tomo is a member of MAsT: Sacramento, MAsT: San Francisco, and The Exiles and a member of Mama’s family as Mama’s Samurai.  She was awarded the 2013 Pantheon of Leather President’s Award.

Alameda County Leather 2017 Titleholders

The Leather Alliance Weekend is proud to have Alameda County Leather Corps as a Community-level sponsor. Without their generous support, this weekend would not be possible.

The most important goal of the ACLC is to assist service providers and agencies not receiving large government or corporate grants. We assist those most in need.  Our events raise funds for charity and sponsor contest participation in regional and national organizations to further promote our club. All of it ends up helping people.  We work with sponsors, non-profit organizations and individuals to get funds where they are needed most.

Boundless is a place where you can arrive as strangers and leave belonging to new community. That’s why we say, Relax, Play, Bond.

All experience levels, kinks, fetishes, sex positive attitudes, genders, and orientations are welcome; there is no such thing as “not being kinky enough.” Kink is a state of mind.
